Pakistan Affairs (Notes)
Poverty and unemployment are among the most pressing socio-economic challenges in Pakistan. A large portion of the population lives below the poverty line, with poverty being more severe in rural areas due to lack of education, healthcare, infrastructure, and job opportunities. Unemployment, especially among youth and educated individuals, remains high due to economic instability, lack of industrial growth, and limited vocational training.
The causes of poverty include inflation, low wages, population growth, and inequitable wealth distribution. Unemployment stems from factors such as lack of skills, energy crises, slow investment, and poor governance. The informal sector employs a significant portion of the workforce but offers no job security or benefits.
The government has launched several initiatives like the Ehsaas Program, Kamyab Jawan Program, and skill development schemes to address poverty and create employment opportunities. Despite these efforts, poverty and unemployment remain persistent due to weak implementation, corruption, and political instability.
Tackling these issues requires sustainable economic growth, education reforms, investment in SMEs, and social safety nets. Empowering people through skill training and ensuring inclusive development are essential for a prosperous Pakistan.
