Pakistan Affairs (Notes)
Pakistan joined the United Nations (UN) on 30 September 1947, shortly after gaining independence. Since then, it has played a proactive and responsible role in various UN forums, particularly in peacekeeping, diplomacy, and global development.
Pakistan is one of the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping missions, deploying tens of thousands of troops to conflict zones in Africa, the Balkans, and Asia. These efforts have earned Pakistan global recognition and respect.
In the UN General Assembly and Security Council, Pakistan has consistently raised the Kashmir issue, demanding implementation of UN resolutions for a plebiscite. It also advocates for the rights of Palestinians, nuclear disarmament, climate change action, and Islamophobia awareness.
Pakistan has served multiple terms as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and is a member of various UN bodies like UNHRC, UNESCO, and UNDP.
Pakistan has also signed and ratified numerous human rights and development conventions and collaborates with the UN on SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), education, health, and disaster management.
Pakistan’s relationship with the UN reflects its commitment to global peace, cooperation, and multilateral diplomacy, aligned with its foreign policy principles and global responsibilities.
