Pakistan has played a vital role in global peacekeeping efforts, especially under the United Nations (UN). Since joining the UN peacekeeping operations in 1960, Pakistan has consistently ranked among the top troop-contributing countries in missions across Africa, the Balkans, Asia, and the Middle East.

Over 200,000 Pakistani personnel, including soldiers, police, and medical teams, have served in over 45 UN missions, reflecting Pakistan’s strong commitment to global peace, security, and humanitarian support. Notable deployments include missions in Congo, Liberia, Somalia, Haiti, Sierra Leone, and South Sudan. Pakistani peacekeepers are praised for their professionalism, discipline, and community engagement.

Pakistan has also deployed female peacekeepers, promoting gender equality and helping address gender-based violence in conflict zones. The UN Secretary-General and international partners have acknowledged Pakistan’s valuable contributions.

Despite internal challenges, Pakistan views peacekeeping as a way to project its image as a responsible global actor, enhance military diplomacy, and gain strategic experience. Continued participation in UN peacekeeping reflects Pakistan’s belief in multilateralism and the importance of collective efforts in maintaining world peace and stability.
